Blog# 160 June and July are the Best Months for Acupuncture
June and July, especially from June 15 to July 15, are the most powerful, supportive and physically healing times to receive Acupuncture. Not only can people with some physical illnesses and injuries find great support in healing; this time is also the best for supportive tonification to help people to maintain their health and increase their vitality. Why? Well, for one thing, warm weather helps increase circulation throughout the body and also helps relax muscles and lymphatic flow. If, during the Summer, you can exercise regularly, eat sensibly and healthfully, avoid toxic substances, get sufficient sleep, especially going to bed soon after sunset and rising at dawn, and if you can enjoy life while also making sure to engage in worthwhile and constructive activities each day, Summer’s warm sunny days and inspirational nights will become powerful tonics that you can store and rely on throughout the rest of the year. And these optimal conditions support a good Acupuncture treatment. Get several during this time frame and gift yourself with extra energy reserves and improved physiological balance.
Cultures throughout the world respect and have even worshiped the Sun. Notice how lushly vegetation grows during Summer’s warm months. If you stand outdoors, in a wooded area, on a sandy beach, the desert, or in a mountainous area and close your eyes, you will likely be able to feel the season’s supportive energy rising from the Earth into your feet and up through your entire body. You also may be able to feel the blessing of the warmth all around you. Although you may need to be careful to moderate Sun and heat exposure, it is important to receive some, unless you suffer from recurrent skin cancer. Sunlight nourishes our bodies with highly absorbable Vitamin D. This vitamin helps keep bones and muscles strong, supports the immune system and generally helps pick up our spirits. However, those with skin cancer, very dark skin or those who live significantly far North of the Equator may need to support themselves with Vitamin D supplements, sometimes year-round or sometimes at least during the cooler, less sunny months, depending on the individual. High quality Vitamin D from sun or some supplements containing Vitamin D3 with Vitamin K2 can also help prevent and counteract infections and even serious diseases, as well as protect the heart and help prevent blood clots. It is a good idea to measure and then keep track of the Vitamin D levels in your blood, at least yearly. 50 to 80 ng/Ml are usually considered to be good levels.
Decades ago, I knew an herbalist who was diagnosed with breast cancer and chose away from conventional medical treatment, other than the removal of the tumor. Instead, she spent several hours almost every day reclining in the Belizean Sun and consuming local foods and herbs. In several months, the tumor shrank and could no longer be located through standard medical diagnostics. After three years, the cancer returned and she again treated it with sunlight, rest and herbs/nutrition and again it retreated. Over the ten or so years I knew her, she remained healthy, but I can not vouch for her health past that time period. Although I am not generally suggesting the above treatments for breast cancer, it seems to me that these approaches can be helpful, especially sometimes when combined with more conventional therapies.
Some people sunburn easily and some seem to stay supported yet unscathed by sunlight. I have learned and experienced that consuming significant quantities of seed and vegetable oils or putting them on your skin will often result in sunburn and skin damage, while removing most of these oils from the diet and not applying them to the skin spares people from most sunburns, therefore making the development of skin cancer much less likely. A couple of the several sunscreens that are relatively harmless and also protective are Badger brand and Balbo Botanical brand sunscreens. They both use the reflective, protective properties of Zinc oxide. Protective power should be at least SPF 30. Some brands, such as Badger for Baby, has protective power of SPF 40.
So, this is the best time of year to avail yourself of Acupuncture therapy. Consider doing this to help bolster your immune system and general vitality. Enjoy the summer.
